Brooklyn Navy Yard

CASE STUDY: BROOKLYN NAVY YARD

Brooklyn Navy Yard played a foundational role in the development of Pull City. Working from Newlab, Pull City used the Yard as an early real-world environment to explore how place-based technology could better support business communities, operational systems, and local discovery.

Home to hundreds of companies across manufacturing, design, fabrication, food, and innovation, the Yard provided a uniquely complex ecosystem for testing ideas that would later shape the Pull City platform.

A REAL-WORLD R&D ENVIRONMENT

Through early pilot work and direct engagement with businesses across the Yard, Pull City developed and refined systems focused on:

  • Business directories and searchable local inventories
  • Operational data organization across diverse tenants
  • Discovery tools for navigating large business ecosystems
  • Mobile-friendly access to place-based information
  • Community participation models for keeping information current

These early experiments helped validate a core belief that places function better when their own knowledge is organized, accessible, and actively used.
